Why I’m Fitter and Happier in My Forties Than Ever Before

How I Transformed My Health, Mindset, and Longevity

Reaching my forties has been a revelation. Instead of slowing down, I feel fitter, stronger, and more fulfilled than ever before. My journey has been about more than just fitness—it’s been about redefining my approach to health, longevity, and well-being.

Like many, I once saw health as something reactive—only worth addressing when something went wrong. But as I delved deeper into the science of health optimisation, prevention, and longevity, I realised that taking proactive steps could not only improve my present but also redefine my future. Today, as a GP, lifestyle doctor, and longevity specialist, my mission is to help others experience the same transformation.

Finding Strength in Movement

My journey began with running. At first, it was just a way to move more, but over time, it became something deeper—a space to clear my mind, build resilience, and reconnect with my body. Running was the gateway to a bigger shift, one that led me to embrace resistance training as well.

For years, I avoided strength training, convinced the gym wasn’t for me. But with the guidance of an amazing personal trainer, I discovered that strength was about more than aesthetics—it was about longevity, bone health, and metabolic resilience. Lifting weights has helped me feel more capable, more energetic, and more in control of my body than ever before.

The Power of Food Without the Guilt

As a food lover, I’ve never believed in punishment-based eating. Instead of restrictive diets or fleeting fads, I’ve embraced an anti-inflammatory, whole-food-based approach that fuels my body without feeling like deprivation.

Intermittent fasting has also played a key role—not as a rigid rule but as a flexible tool for metabolic health. Learning to listen to my body’s natural hunger cues, rather than constantly eating out of habit, has been a game-changer. The focus isn’t on restriction, but on nourishing, sustainable choices that support longevity.

Reclaiming Mental and Emotional Well-Being

True health isn’t just about the physical—it’s also about the mind. Over the years, I’ve learned that who we surround ourselves with and how we spend our time matter just as much as what we eat and how we train.

I’ve prioritised friends, family, and community, recognising that meaningful relationships are one of the most powerful predictors of longevity. I’ve also left behind toxic work environments, choosing instead to create a professional life that is fulfilling, rewarding, and aligned with my purpose—helping others take control of their health.

Alongside this shift, I’ve embraced breathwork, meditation, and mindfulness. These practices have helped me manage stress, improve focus, and cultivate a sense of calm that carries into every aspect of my life.

Optimising Health Through Science and Strategy

Beyond daily habits, I’ve also integrated targeted supplementation to support longevity and brain health. Omega-3 fatty acids have been a staple, helping reduce inflammation and improve cognitive function. Combined with personalised health insights, these strategies have helped me stay ahead of potential risks and build a strong foundation for long-term well-being.

The Roots of Health: A Framework for Lasting Well-Being

At the heart of my approach is a simple yet powerful framework—one that I now use to guide others toward better health. I call it The Roots of Health, a system designed to support lasting vitality and resilience through six key pillars:

✅ Strong – Building physical resilience through movement, strength training, and exercise.

✅ Nourish – Prioritising whole, nutrient-dense foods that fuel long-term health.

✅ Restore – Optimising sleep, recovery, and rejuvenation for sustained energy.

✅ Discover – Using personalised health insights to better understand and optimise well-being.

✅ Balance – Managing stress, emotions, and mindset for a holistic approach to health.

✅ Radiance – Cultivating inner and outer vitality that reflects overall well-being.

By nourishing these roots, we can transform the way we feel today while also building a future of longevity, strength, and vitality.

Transforming the Way We Approach Health and Ageing

My journey has reshaped not just how I live but also how I practice medicine. I no longer see healthcare as a system for treating disease—I see it as a tool for optimising health and extending vitality. My mission is to change the way people perceive healthcare and ageing, shifting the focus from disease management to proactive, personalised health strategies.

Ageing isn’t something to fear—it’s an opportunity. With the right approach, we can not only live longer but live better, with more energy, resilience, and purpose.
